| The Barn Owl is now in the flight cage
and flying well. It will be ready to release in a few weeks
once we establish it can take prey and feed itself. Unfortunately,
we have a few new birds of prey. There is a Screech owl
hit by a car and a Cooper’s hawk with a neurological disorder.
We received two Great Horned Owls(GHO) this last month.
One is doing well with a wing and leg injury. The other
we lost. The remaining GHO is very interesting as it observes
everything and is unusually quiet. It will go into a mews
shortly, after the antibiotics are completed. There, we
can evaluate its ability to fly again. |
| We have two Eagle Scouts each preparing
to build a display mews for the raptor center. These new
facilities will be used for Spike and Nemo. Patrick Hook
is planning to begin Friday, September 18th at 4:00 pm at
the WKRC and will try to complete his mews the next day
on Saturday the 19th. George Morgan, Jr. will be starting
his project sometime this fall. As soon as we know more
we will share that information. Eagle Scout Clinton Berry
will be working with us on the Raptor Rehabilitation Complex
in the coming weeks. He will assist us in a grant application
for this large project. |
| Let us welcome Lauren Chism who works
with DVM Nathan Kunze. She is interested in helping out
at the center and rehabbing. Also, welcome new volunteers
Suzy Mayberry and Ross Leigh. |
