January 2007 Newsletter

January 22, 2007 E Mail letter from Eric Miller as follows:

Hello WKRC volunteers; I just wanted to give you an update on our progress and some key events from this past week.

WKRC @ Yellow Creek: We have a signed 5 year lease agreement with the DC Fiscal court and DC Parks Department. We are moving in to the Raptor center at Yellow Creek as soon as possible. It needs work to clean up the old offices and get the Raptor hospital up and running. Don will be in charge of the overall project and he has all our support. Don's e-mail is attached so you can e-mail him directly if you wish to help out and when. Feel free to contact me if I am in town as I will be traveling on my day job. ( dmboarman@earthlink.net )

The Joe Ford/ Ben Hawes nature walk had a pleasant surprise as the WKRC showed up with a Cooper's hawk and a Red Tail. It was a very pretty day so the walk and hawk talk was perfect. Obbie Todd organized the walk, Mike Roby talked about his Falconry birds and Paul Hardesty helped out where needed. Don's successful rehab & releases of a Cooper's hawk and a Screech owl made the week a terrific one. Terri Atkinson helped out and we have a great photo of her release. Roseanne and Don released the Screech owl near its home Thursday evening. This was a wonderful story they will have to tell you about. If you wish to know more about the releases and rehabbing let Don and me know.

www.westkyraptor.org is our new WKRC web site donated by JP Fentress. He is asking for photos to add to it as we build our site. Go there to learn more about who is the WKRC and what we can do to help here in Yellow Creek Park. Share this with a friend if you think they may be interested learning more.

We continue to grow as several new people signed up to join our conservation efforts with the WKRC on Saturday.

The meeting held at the DC operation Center was a success as we have new friends at the Owensboro Community & Technical College. Geralyn, Micah and Terri are professors' biology, conservation and the environment here in Owensboro.

I am looking forward to working with the KCTCS as a partner. Thanks for your support

Eric Miller
