Greetings to all; August was a good month for releases regarding a variety of
birds of prey. Three raptors were released after the heat wave. A Red Tail, Great
Horned Owl and a Coopers hawk. That brings the 2007 total to 15 patients
admitted with 8 successful releases.
Trash
for Cash was a super event.
In
just over 2 hours we raised $1000 by the volunteers who suffered under the heat.
I can’t thank you enough for all the help. We paid our raptor food bill of $200
this year leaving over $1200 in the bank as of today. This gives us all a head
start on the 2008 budget is over $2000. Most of the 2008 budget is Insurance we
must have.
Our
next WKRC project will be a flight Cage. The materials are already donated and
Reggie is assembling his team to start in October when the weather is cooler.
If you interested in helping out with the construction let us know. The good news
is the security fence is back in place and we have our space back at Yellow Creek.
I have coordinated with DC park maintenance and they are ready to move the Mews
into place next week. The mews has been prepared for transport so we are ready
to go.
Celebration
is the next fun event with the Jon-Caleb as we have the ceremony for the
Eagle Scout Project or grand opening of Nemo’s new home. I will inform you as
to the exact date and time at Yellow Creek when this will take place this fall.
We also have another Eagle Scout eager to start another Mews for us. So we are
building our facilities quickly! Team Nemo: Now is the time for our very patient
volunteers to get excited. We need to have the names of the people who will take
care of our first permentantly resistant at the WKRC, Nemo. Our goal is to have
enough team members so they can go through training and rotate the feeding 6 days
out of 7. Raptors need a fast day. Matter of fact I could one or two myself.
If
you wish to be on Team Nemo – please contact me directly.
We
had a Hawk talk with Nemo for a local troop and again with the Wild Turkey Federation
Jakes day this month. This is always a pleasure for me to speak with the youth
of our community.

World of Thanks to Don Boarman is in order
After
18 years of helping raptors Don has decided to retire from the world of raptor
rehab. This decision was do to health reasons and we wish him the very best. Don
can’t get too far from raptors as they are in his blood. Although there are times
his blood gets on them. I am certain any questions we may have Don will lend a
hand when ever possible. Thanks to all for the help
